MA Thesis (Outline & Bibliography)

By Cynthia R. Nielsen

I’ve recently finished my penultimate draft of my MA (philosophy) thesis, Either/Or: Either Rationality in Submission to and Defined by the Other or (Ir)rationality as Autonomous and Self-Defined, and have placed my outline and bibliography on my website. As soon as my second reader reviews the draft (probably in July) and I make the necessary corrections, I will post the thesis itself on my website. At that point, I will be “officially” graduated, i.e., I will have completed my MA in philosophy and will begin my Ph.D. work at the University of Dallas in the Fall, 2006. Слава Богу!

A fascinating thesis topic. Based on your abstract and outline, I would venture to recommend that you read Eberhard Juengel’s God as the Mystery of the World. He, too, addresses Descartes and Kant at length (as well as Fichte, Nietzsche, and Hegel). But he follows a Barthian-Lutheran trajectory in establishing the concept of God’s rational mystery in Jesus Christ. I highly recommend this work. Both of my blogs center around his work, but godasmystery.blogspot.com is dedicated to his theology, in case you are interested.

Dear D.W.,

Thanks for your comment. I visited your “God as Mystery Blog” and have added it to my blogroll.

Warm regards,
Cynthia

Looks très cool Cynthia. I look forward to reading more of your work soon!

Thanks for the encouraging words, Shane. I will post the entire thesis in August.

Warm regards,
Cynthia

Congratulations, friend! This is a huge accomplishment. I would say I look forward to reading it, but I’m not sure I have the brain power to keep up … :)

Interesting topic! I like it and look forward to reading your thesis.

Will you start your Ph.D. at the University of Texas at Dallas or University of Dallas?
I got accepted a year ago to do doctoral studies in History of Ideas (Philosphy/History) at UTD but started the program. I’m supposed to start in the Fall, 2006.

I am at the University of Dallas and will begin my PhD studies this fall (2006).

Nice to meet you!

Cynthia

Thanks, Rach. It feels good to have it “more or less” completed.

Cheers,
Cynthia
